This place truly lives up to it's name! I ordered a chicken kabob which came with tons of rice, some bread and an awesome greek salad. The chicken on the kabob was juicy, flavorful and savory. The rice came with some sauce that was white and quite good as well. I didn't get one, but they had all kinds of throwback drinks, including glass coke, fruit drinks and yogurt drinks. They have an open bbq pit but they didn't have it going when I got there. Great place! I'll be bringing my friends there.

The place is awesome the owners are friendly and fast service. The BBQ ribs are a must, get a combo with ribs chicken and you're set. Some side of hummus with pitas :).

After endless repeat visits I just had to upgrade these guys to four stars. They are continually consistent and eminently friendly. The kind of owner/operators you just want to immediately root for. They now have my 'greek fast food dollars' exclusively. No more crown, yannis or mad greek for me. The price/portion value proposition here is just killer. $8.99 will get you the combo plate, which is a chicken kabob, beef kabob, gyro meat, green salad, huge pile of rice/fries and a couple of sauces (greek dressing and tzatziki). Its enough for two meals for me. While I'm not normally one to espouse the virtues of huge plates of food for cheap prices, its hard not to bring it up when the food is so good. I mentioned earlier that I wasn't ready to commit to claiming them as having the best chicken, well I havent had a better chicken kabob anywhere in town; theirs is juicy and perfectly cooked. They also do 1/4, 1/2 and whole chickens roasted on the spit too.

Though I enjoyed the service and the generous portion sizes, I was unimpressed with the chicken, which I ordered because it is the namesake of the restaurant. Unfortunately, it was dry and kinda bland which was disappointing. If you're hungry, though, this place might be a good stop as it will certainly fill you up. I am willing to give this another go, but with a different dish.

  • Elizabeth M.

We got the chicken and ribs as well as a gyro with fries. The skin of the chicken was amazing but overall dry and the ribs were extremely tender but the sauce was not that great. Gyro was a standard gyro... nothing special. The price for how much food you get is good but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again. People who work here are really nice, however and I would go back for great service.

The chicken with yellow or white rice are phenomenal. So tender. And I'm Persian so the rice is key and this isn't your usually crappy refined rice that tastes like plastic. It's our home cooked rice from the Middle East!!! If you don't eat pork the lamb ribs are just as good as the pork ones. Non pork stuff is so hard to find. Get the yogurt sauce too! I took a friend yesterday and she could stop going on about how good it was. Totally recommend!!

They take care of me, everytime. That's what hits home the most when I think about the people from Best Chicken & Ribs. Whether you're coming in for lunch or for dinner, their warm hospitality and great food will keep you coming back. After numerous times dining here, I have to say, I really enjoy their chicken kabob the most. Their rice is more flavorful in comparison to their competitors, also along State Street. Great portions, easy going atmosphere, good for anytime past noon. Eat here, be happy.

This place is GREAT! The couple who own and operate it are always there and always friendly. I get takeout at least once a week and it's always ready and accurate, usually within 15 minutes of calling. I love the half chicken with rice and salad for like $7.99. Another restaurant I like sales the same thing for $15.99. There's is slightly better, but not for double the price. I don't recommend the ribs if you're super hungry. They are good, just not a lot of meat on the bone. My mom loves the gyro but I've never had it. I always take the house dressing (creamy greek), very tasty!

I got to say this place is gross all around from the outside it looks disgusting and from the inside it's even more disgusting. They seriously need to do a remodel on this place as it is just really dirty. The food is very mediocre and I think it's pretty interesting that they have room for a tip when you pay with a credit card. I'm just not sure why but expect a tip when you going to walk up to the counter order the food and take it with you. Also they always try to talk you into buying a soft drink I do not drink soft drinks thank you for asking each and every time. I think the prices are kind of high for what you get overall not impressed will not return

This place is good! I bookmarked it after seeing all the good reviews. I got the gyro sandwich which was very yummy! My boyfriend got the chicken and beef kabobs they were great as well. The only thing we thought could be improved about the meal was the rice, it didn't have nearly enough flavor...very bland. We will definitely be returning though because we enjoyed every thing else!

I am always a fan of little places like this. The staff is very friendly and the food is very authentic. The seasonings pair perfectly with the rice and chicken. You can get things like half of a chicken or some kabobs and even ribs. There's so much more but you will just have to come and see!

If ordering the chicken salad, request all white meat with basmati rice...divine!! The salad dressing is amazing!!

  • Mari V.

Hell no. Dry chicken, disgusting BBQ sauce on the ribs, stale pita, and their salad was a joke. The only good thing was the rice. Never coming back.

  • Steven S.

I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on croissant and it was delicious but a little heavy on the sauce (or mayo?). The heaping pile of rice was delicious. I'll definitely be back to try a more traditional entree, especially since it's right next to the best donuts in two at Donuts & Deli.

Oh, delicious dive Mediterranean food! This place is awesome. Yesterday, we had take-out. The chicken kabobs and combo plate were amazing. And the owners are the nicest people in the world. This is THE local dive spot of the neighborhood. Nothing fancy, no frills anywhere, but so affordable and delicious. I've been frequenting for years!

Looks can be deceiving. I'd driven by this place hundreds of times without stopping. It's now a go-to favorite. I even have their number saved in my contacts. Their gyros are the best I've had and their chicken kebabs are insane! Fries and rice both make tasty sides. Service is slow, so call ahead and take it home with you. Or plan to pull up a chair and watch TV for a bit if you dine in. The staff is great. Wonderful Mom and Pop shop that I'm happy to support.

I love this place...the chicken salad is my favorite. Huge portions and very nice people, make this place one of the top 5 of my favorite places to eat.

This place is great! So far I have had their chicken, gyro and chicken souvlak sandwiches, combination plate and can't wait to try more! Everything is cooked and seasoned extremely well and the ingredients taste fresh.

A nice little hole in the wall. The ribs are melt in your mouth soft and very flavorful. The chicken has a nice seasoning on it and wasn't dried out. All you have to do is place the order up front and take a seat, they do the rest. I don't know what the seasoning is on the rice but it's good too.

Tasteful and healthy meals prepared when ordered. This is one of my all time favorite spots for some grilled meats and healthier choices when grabbing lunch. It is family owned and operated and they have been in business for a long time. Try their half chicken plate or the cobonation platter.

Found this place by chance many years ago while commuting to graduate classes at the U. We have been eating here and recommending it to friends ever since. To tell you the truth, I've never tried the ribs. We go here for the chicken and beef kabobs. Even though the description is Greek, the owners are Persian. Speaking of the owners, they are the nicest proprietors you will ever meet. We've eaten there a lot and the lady owner always remembers our regular orders. On the plus side: The rice is very good. I prefer their style to some of the watery stuff I've tried elsewhere. The kabobs are exactly the way I like them. The salad dressing is very good. Our friends have tried the chicken and ribs and say they are great. They serve a nice tatziki sauce as well. The minuses: Although I love the place, it's not perfect. The only thing that could make the kabobs better are bigger pieces of bell pepper and adding some onion would be nice too. The salad can be a little wilted at times. My biggest beef is with the pita bread. I know there are better pitas available locally. I wish they wouldn't cut corners. It would actually be great is the served Iranian lavash bread. Despite its flaws, we will continue to eat here and recommend it to anyone. It's one of our local favorites.

I've been here three times and never learn my lesson. each time was a bad experience. I called in my order and was told it would take 10 to 15 minutes, it took me 20 to get there and they still hadn't even started preparing it. I only get 30 minutes for lunch break and that's why I called it in ahead. There falafel is frozen and brought in from California. And their dolmades come straight from the can. Most Greek places I go to make their own Dolmades and falafel. I guess if you're a meat eater you might like this place if it wasn't for the service. The lady owner was rude because I complained about waiting for an order that I called in. I over heard her tell her son "if they call for falafel tell them we no longer carry it." I've only been there because it's one of the only places near my work that has vegetarian options. Not recommended go to a real Mediterranean restaurant Like Mazza!

I have been here many many times. I LOVE the gyros here. I have tried many other greek gyros in the area and this place has the best quality and taste. Many people frequent this place and are constantly going in and out. The business is family owned as I see the owners here every time I have come. The food seems to be authentic and the owners are very sincere and welcoming. Even if there is a lot of people eating or waiting I think the food is well worth the wait!!!

Great chicken for a great price! I don't know what they season the chicken with but it is addicting. Order with a portion of that yellow rice and you are set!

As the wise and sage Ric Flair once (maybe more than once) famously said, "to be the best, you've got to beat the best." Putting "Best" in your name really sets people up for a certain expectation and it's always kind of a mixed bag. My current "best" in the category of restaurants of this type is Chicken Express and in many ways, this is a similar type of restaurant, just one you can (sometimes) get a seat in, whereas with Chicken Express, it's nearly never. In a couple other categories that won't really affect the review much, both have an atrocious drink selection, Chicken Express has better desserts and the owners and staff are extremely friendly in both places. Now, on to the head to head battle of the food: Chicken: These are similar but still different chickens. CE is a straight up rotisserie and BC appears to be some kind of fire method. Both are tender and juicy. BC's has crispier and tastier skin, but I usually don't eat that part anyway. CE has much better overall flavor and the BC had an odd flavoring, which I suspect is turmeric based. Winner here is CE. Ribs: CE didn't exactly impress me with their sauce, but the ribs were (mostly) cooked well. BC's was a near complete fatty mess of a disaster slathered in BBQ sauce. Runaway winner here is CE. Pita bread: CE remains the best I've had while BC served me something reminiscent of what I could buy in a grocery store like Smith's. Winner again is CE. Rice: CE has some quite fabulous rice while BC's is unique, with a sort of lemony spin on things, but is ultimately a step down. Winner again is BC. Salad: Equal. Are you really going to this kind of a place for salad? So, of the 5 items I've had at both, CE was a clear winner in all cases, which puts the lie to the name of this place, at least in my book. I didn't mind eating there and wouldn't hesitate again in the future and I probably will go back to compare the kabob plates, but it's not the kind of cramped place I will probably be spending a whole lot more time in. The food is definitely worth trying out, though it's overall "not bad" and that sort of place will do in a pinch, but isn't the sort of place that I would drive past a better one to go to...

Must try. One of our favorites. Don't let the looks deceive you. I always order the combo plate with yellow rice and extra sauce.

For the longest I thought "Best Chicken & Ribs" either got voted as a place that had the "best chicken & ribs," or was a small restaurant that serves soul-food. When my sister and I finally pulled into its parking lot yesterday I was finally able to read the sign on the side of the building carefully and realized that "Best Chicken & Ribs" was the restaurant's name, and it serves Greek food! (see photo!) Both my sister and I got their chicken and ribs plate (because we wanted to try their "best chicken & ribs") that came with rice (or fries, but rice sounded better to us) and a side salad. The salad came first, and it was ok, but when the rice and the chicken and ribs came, I was happy! The rice was cooked and seasoned well, the chicken was moist, and the ribs just fell off the bone and saucy. I wouldn't say "Best Chicken & Ribs" has the best chicken and ribs, but the meats were cooked well, tender, and tasty. I'm planning on returning to try their gyro or kebab soon. Oh, and the owner lady (I assume) was happy and adorable! I really enjoyed our visit.

Stephanie J is right. Dive-y is a word. And her use of the word was perfectly placed in describing this restaurant. Don't pay much attention to the gray acoustic ceiling tiles. Pretty sure they used to be white, but wh's keeping track? She's also right on about a few other things. For one, the serving sizes are generous. On a recent trip here, only about half the group finished their plate. I shared mine, and while I could have still kept eating I didn't walk away hungry. We had the combo plate, which had steak kebabs, gyro meat, chicken kebabs, a salad, and we opted for fries instead of rice. The fries we especially good - crispy to perfection. The weakest link was the beef which wasn't super flavorful or tender, but I'd still get it again. The chicken was big and chunky, and I'm a sucker for gyro meat, so I gobbled that up fast. I had a chance to sample some rice. I'm pretty sure I could rub it all over my clothing and then go hunting - it's an incredible shade of blaze orange. The loudness of its color didn't translate over to taste, and I'm happy to report that it was pretty decent rice. That same orange color appeared on the chicken. Seriously, what is that? Prices were fair. I'm tempted to get the ribs next time, because ordering ribs from a Greek food joint seems like a fun idea. I may have a warped sense of fun, however. Extra points for the fountain out front.

Let me get this out of the way first: you get a LOT of food with your order. I'm usually able to finish my meals, but I only got about halfway at Best Chicken. The gyro meat is really tasty--tender and salty. The chicken kebab was dry, which was a bit of a disappointment considering their name. The beef kebab was flavorful, but pretty chewy. As if that wasn't enough, my meal came with a side of fries, which were perfectly cooked and crispy, doing justice to the other Greek restaurants in the valley. I don't know if I'd go out of my way to stop by again, but it was an ok meal.

This place is so great! The service is friendly, though the place looks kind of dive-y (it's a word, just ask Jeffery S!) Their gyro plate is my personal favorite because it is enough food for two days! I also have had the chicken salad, the chicken plate, the gyro sandwich and the kabobs here. Everything is good! Given the option of rice or fries makes it is really hard to choose because they are both pretty amazing. What I like to do with the gyro plate is to put the salad down on a plate, then a layer of rice, and top it off with the gyro meat for a gyro salad (similar to the chicken salad). The house dressing is rather tasty. That is the money salad right there!! The one thing that is not so great about this place is that it shares a parking lot with the donut and deli store to the west. So there is not a bunch of parking in the lot.

Call it what you may, be it a kabab, kebab, kebap, kebob, kabob, or even souvlakis, I love a good grilled/roasted one, more so from a chicken. Among the several places that serve kababs in the valley, Ali Baba and Chicken Express are my favorites. I had heard good things about Best Chicken & Ribs but it was only recently that I made my first trip there. It turns out Best Chicken & Ribs is like Chicken Express's identical twin, and in a good way. The double chicken kabab plate over here very closely resembles the one from Chicken Express. Except, maybe the Best chicken pieces are just a bit bigger, the skewers contain a couple of pieces of grilled pepper and the chicken is slightly tougher. I may have very well imagined the last bit. I don't know if their chicken is the "best" but I found their kababs to very tasty. The rice and fries were also very good. Moreover, their hours aren't quite as frustrating as that of Chicken Express. I may have just found a new favorite.

I have been loving coming here since the week they opened. I love all there Greek choices and there sandwiches. I always order there combo plate. It has lamb, chicken and steak with rice or potatoes. This is enough food for two normal people to eat. I love the owners who are always since they opened making the food. They have always stayed consistent and it is always tasty.

The beans are absolutely amazing! The rest of the BBQ fare is good, but not anything I would write home about. Overall an OK place for BBQ if you are downtown.

This place, with its unassuming exterior and 1970s decor, has literally the best kebab I've had inside the States!

  • Greg N.

The chicken and ribs combo plate is delish, served with rice and salad (get the Greek dressing). I also enjoy the chicken kabob and the gyro plate was as good as I've ever had anywhere. A friendly mom & pop restaurant, it can get crowded for lunch - so go early or call in your order ahead. If it's busy, getting the food to the table can be a little slow - but it's worth it. I do take out from here at least once a week.

  • Maggie P.

It's just some consistent delish greek food. The owners are always there and are way nice everytime we go in. Their kabobs are heavenly! I'm a fan of their rice and potatoes. YUMMY! Place is not a looker from the outside but the food is great!

5 stars. Why? Because the food was borderline awesome, the woman who I imagine was the owner who served up my food was awesome in a pushy way, and this place is as local as it can get. It is right off of State Street and just a white cinder block building. However inside is actually clean and cool on a blistering hot summer day. Now it's called "Best Chicken & Ribs" however I would like to protest that they remove "Chicken" from the title. The chicken isn't bad, but it doesn't fit under the title of "Best" in my opinion. It's a good compliment to the ribs however. The rice as well as the chicken are yellow and I'm not sure why but yet it doesn't scare me. I still ate every bit of it. I got the chicken and ribs platter for 7.99 and it came with a salad and a whole crap load of the yellow rice I was referring to with some red seasoning on top, maybe cayenne pepper? But who knows. Now the ribs, the ribs my friends. I wish Yelp allowed the upload of video so I can show how the tender meat literally fell off as I lifted the bone out of my tray. I scooped the tend morsels of meat with my fingers as I shoveled them into my mouth. I enjoyed the woman who sort of seemed edgy as I stared at the menu. Apparently I was taking too long and she began to read the menu to me and showing me the food. I found her charm humorous and only added to the overall experience. Come here, support your local restaurant owners. Come high and support your munchies addiction.

I just found this little gem a couple of weeks ago. The portions are huge and the gyros were delicious. The rotisserie chicken is moist and flavorful. The rice is also very tasty. I am always greeted with a very friendly lady who I believe owns the place, she always has a smile on her face and is happy to serve you. Give it a try you won't been disappointed.

Best gyro I've had in the United States. I recommend this to everybody I know. The fries are delicious with the little bit of paprika they sprinkle on it. The tzatziki sauce is unbelievably good. Don't eat the gyro without it!

do the kids meal the shish kabobs left something to be desired the greek potatoes are real good the salad and greek dressing very good

  • Julia L.

Great gyros! I had never seen a gyro with lettuce on it, which might sound a bit off-putting at first, but the added texture is great. It's one of the largest in town and it's also one of the cheapest. Don't confuse low price with low quality; I'd say this is in the running for the best in Salt Lake. At the very least, it has become my recent favorite. The atmosphere is friendly and clean. Great service. I have to go back to try the titular chicken and ribs. If they put the same attention into those as they do their gyros, they can't lose. However, I'll hold off on the 5-star rating until I try more of the menu.
